It is odd, just how much the way we speak can affect another. I have this problem when I am speaking to our eldest, I have to be very careful in how I emphasise words and the volume. It appears to him that I am being aggressive a lot of the time. It is similar with the little boy.
I have learnt a whole new way of speaking to them so that I do not offend. Most of the time, I don't even realise that I am doing it.
Does anyone else have problems with the Tone of their voice, it appears to be something that those with Aspergers has. I know that I am affected by the tone of a voice, but usually put it down to being Empath as well!

Re: The Tone Of My Voice!
Mon, January 5, 2009 - 4:40 PMIn a word, yes. When I was younger I just quit talking because I couldn't figure out volume control OR tone. Now I mostly don't give a shit until people start backing away slowly with that special oh-my-god-what-can-of-worms-did-I-just-open look upon their face, or more directly, my friends will just tell me I'm starting to scare them. Mostly that's a question of intensity, though. When I get excited about something, my presentation apparently goes to straight to hell. I guess most normal people don't talk louder or faster when they get stimulated? -

Re: The Tone Of My Voice!
Wed, January 7, 2009 - 3:13 PMI have a tendency to live in my world a lot, it seems safer there. I do my best to work with those around me and people think that I talk a lot. It seems that when i want to get a point across, the volume goes up and the speech can become a little faster than normal. I understand what I am saying, but those around me think that I am being aggressive. So I usually give up speaking and just walk away. -

Re: The Tone Of My Voice!
Wed, January 7, 2009 - 5:33 PMI have had instances like that. Though at the time I thought the person was just being way overly sensitive. I've never had trouble with kids, they seem to get me and vise versa.
One thing I noticed recently is that I think the whole tone of voice thing and the different way we say stuff is how we find each other when we don't even know we were looking. I think back and the men I've dated or been close to have often been so excited to talk to me because I didn't get freaked out by them or offended by their stark speach. It seemed refreshing to me(o: -

Wed, January 7, 2009 - 8:22 PMI was referring to our two boys, they have aspergers. Most children I get on with, they think that I am either a Wizard or Santa!
